The Night Deeanna Disappeared

On June 6, 2025, Deeanna Marie Erickson was last seen in Calgary, Alberta. The final confirmed sighting occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m., when she exited a city bus near a Shoppers Drug Mart in the community of Walden. According to her sister, this stop was unexpected and out of character, and there have been no confirmed sightings of Deeanna since.

Earlier that evening, Deeanna was recorded asking a bus driver how long her bus would be before arriving. She was told approximately fifteen minutes. For reasons that remain unknown, she boarded a bus that was not her intended route. While on the bus, surveillance footage reportedly shows Deeanna rocking back and forth and crying, indicating visible emotional distress.

When the bus stopped in Walden, Deeanna got off abruptly. There is no indication that she had planned to exit at that location. What happened after she stepped off the bus remains unknown.

Deeanna did not have a phone with her that night. She did not take personal belongings consistent with starting a new life, and according to her family, her disappearance was completely out of character.

Who Deeanna Is and Why This Case Matters

Deeanna Marie Erickson was 31 years old at the time she went missing and has since turned 32. She lived with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, a condition that can increase vulnerability, particularly during periods of stress or emotional dysregulation. According to her sister, Deeanna was highly trusting and had previously relied on others for help navigating daily life.

Deeanna was described by her family as kind, empathetic, and deeply attached to animals. She found comfort and purpose in caring for them. Her sister emphasizes that Deeanna wanted stability and safety, not disappearance. She had recently completed a treatment program and was living in housing close to her sister, where she appeared to be doing well.

In the weeks leading up to her disappearance, Deeanna learned she would need a hysterectomy. According to her sister, this news caused significant emotional distress. Despite this, Deeanna remained in contact with her sister and expressed love and connection in their final messages.

On the morning of June 6, Deeanna sent her sister a message wishing her a happy birthday. Her sister replied with an apology and an expression of love. Deeanna responded that she loved her too. That exchange was the last confirmed communication from Deeanna.

Context Leading Up to June 6

According to family statements, Deeanna’s adult life included periods of stability when appropriate supports were in place, followed by periods of instability when those supports were removed or changed. At various points, Deeanna lived in supportive housing and later attempted more independent living arrangements.

Shelby has stated that Deeanna had a public guardian during periods of treatment and support. While the guardian’s identity is being kept private at the family’s request, Shelby believes the broader system responsible for overseeing Deeanna did not adequately protect her during times of vulnerability. Shelby has been clear that her goal in sharing this context is awareness, not accusation.

This background is important not because it explains what happened to Deeanna, but because it explains why her family believes she was vulnerable on the night she disappeared and why her sudden absence is so alarming.

What Is Known About the Investigation

Deeanna was officially reported missing on June 8, 2025, after her sister realized she could not be located. According to Shelby, law enforcement confirmed that Deeanna’s last known sighting was captured on surveillance footage showing her exiting a bus near Shoppers Drug Mart in Walden at 11:11 p.m. on June 6.

Police have stated there are no known suspects or persons of interest at this time. Shelby reports that investigators informed her that Deeanna did not have a phone when she disappeared, limiting the ability to track her movements digitally.

Search efforts were conducted, including the use of cadaver dogs. According to Shelby, she has advocated for additional searches in surrounding green spaces and bodies of water, but those efforts were not expanded. In August 2025, Shelby says she was told that police were no longer actively searching and were waiting for new evidence.

Shelby has expressed frustration with the pace and scope of the investigation but continues to advocate for awareness and renewed attention to Deeanna’s disappearance.

Whether anyone interacted with Deeanna after she stepped off the bus.

What occurred after 11:11 p.m. on June 6, 2025.
